Today was really relaxing day. After the home coming dance yesterday (I finally arrived at 2 am on Sunday) and busy week, I just needed a day for me :)
So my host parents and me decided to do a walk on the trail, because it was such a beautiful weather outside. Blue sky and the sun was shining through the colorful leaves of the fall time. They showed me a couple of beaver damms (the beaver is also the animal of our school) and Carter could run through the woods and go swimming in the (very cold) swamps. After it he looked like a never-washed dog and also smelled like it :D Back home I did some housework, like tidying up my room, which I coudn't do over the whole week. And put some new stuff in my closet and some old stuff of my hostsister out off it. Yeah, how I said, actually it was a really boring day, but I needed one day like this :) But now I'm looking forward to the next week in school 'cause of home coming. There is everyday a motto how you should wear your clothes. At our homeroom we are decorating a poster for the football game on friday and it's just more fun at school, every teacher is in a laid-back mood (less homework a.s.o.) ;)
Tomorrow's motto is: Neon colored clothes. I think on tuesday it's cowboy style or something and than ugly fashion (which is my favorite)
I'm very happy, that I don't have to do any homework so I can work on my pictures. There are just a few, but some are really beautiful. Fall days like this could be my favorites of the year, but most time of fall is just grey and rainy :) so I prefer spring or summer.
Oh and usually is Sunday the best day in the week to skype with me. I'm on around 5pm-6pm your time.
Love you <3
This week was a really busy week. Probably, because I was very sick (still feel not good) like the whole school seemed to be and because of all the volleyball games. But anyway I want to be fit for tomorrow, 'cause there is the home coming dance!! I want my voice back!!
I've already got my dress two weeks ago (a simple black one, nevertheless beautiful) ... But tomorrow is not only the dance, of course we have got a volleyball game in the morning. I love it to play volleyball. Really. But does it have to be at 7 o'clock in the morning on a Saturday?!
After the game I'm getting ready with some friends for the dance (hair styling a.s.o.) and after that we are going to take some pictures in our group and with each couple. I'm kind of excited.
I've already told you, that I'm joining the Volleyball team until the season ends and after it I probably want to do dancing or something. So, here is a photo of my school volleyball team in America from the last week:
Number 30, 12 (below myself) and 30 are also exchange students. We are all pretty close to each other. Probably because we have all the same first problems with the new language and schoolsystem and homesickness and so on... And it's just funny, when we are talking german at lunch or at Volleyball practise and nobody understands you and is just saying: "Please, stop talking in german I cannot understand what you are talking about!?" ;) Das ist doch der Sinn der Sache...
Okay back in english, I think I've already said, that we have everyday eiher practise or a game against another school. I love it, because you're able to do the sport you want to do every single day and the team gets better and better.
The only thing which sucks is going homework, because we are not allowed to bring our laptop with us to the games and at our School almost every little thing is working on the computer. If we're having game, we are sometimes not until 10pm at home, than taking a shower and after that I should do my homework until 12pm? Okay, I'm so glad that my grades here aren't counting :D you couldn't imagine!!
Nevertheless I love it, playing in this volleyball team. Our coach is in my opinion very motivating and pushes us all the time, but in a way it makes fun. I'm lucky being able to make this experience!
(f.l.: me, Ida, Jessy & Angela)
The first day was actually last wednesday, but I think it's a very important part of my exchange year, so nevertheless I want to write a blogarticle about my first day(s) or week.
How I was expecting, the first day was very hectical, although the Cumberland High isn't a very big school. Everybody was talking at me and asked me questions, which I either thought were very stupid, didn't want to answer or just didn't understand. Students are very good in mumbling...
Examples for unnecessary questions: "Do you have cars in Germany?"; "Do you know Barack Obama?"; "Did you ever see a bird?" ... I'm able to put another 10 questions on the list, but I think everbody have understood what I'm talking about. :D
That was very entertaining but also exhausting :O ... The classes had been almost the same, every teacher introduced us into their edmodo - group, we had to sign in and gave us some safety formulars for their rooms. If you didn't give them back at the next day, you have immediately 5 points less...! So take that serious!
In american High Schools every student has a locker to put his/her school stuff in. And you definetely need them. All of my books are thicker than 3 cm and very heavy. Than you have additionally your laptop bag and if your joining a sportteam (which I do) your sport clothes... I would never be able to squeeze all these thing in my school locker. So we have also a gym locker, which are only for sport team members and your are not allowed to put your laptop in :D
After the 4th hour it's lunch time. In my opinion, the school lunch in our school is very good (for school lunch). But almost everyone is complaining about how bad it is. They're cooking the lunch at school and having everyday fresh salate a.s.o. . But the students are prefering BurgerKing or gas station snacks!? Not understandable for me :D So all in all my first days were really good, I got to talk to many people and am getting used to the students and their peculiarities. Most of them are really friendly and tolerant to exchange students. Of course, there are some guys who are joking about Germany (a.s.o.) but they're also nice.
The teachers here are anyway open to every person and also in a good mood. My favorite one is my
precalc-teacher. This Friday we wrote a "partner-test" (no joke!), which we could taking home if we weren't ready with all assignments. And after the schoolbell was ringing he began to sing:
"It's Friday, it's Friday!" And we should sing with him. It was just funny. :-P Oh my god, school in Germany will be horrible for me, when I'm coming back. I already know that!
I'm very sorry for you having to wait such a long time for my next post. But it has a reason; the internet at the house from my hostfamily doesn't work and will probably work, when a special man comes at tuesday to figured it out... TUESDAY!! I cannot write the whole week-end! I cannot even skype with you :( And don't wondering, why I'm able to write, now. It's from our school internet connection. I have some more time left and so I have decided to informate you about this bad situation -.-' But I will write my blog articles, no matter what the internet is doing, in my noticebook and just send it on the page at Tuesday. So, I'm sorry again. See you on Tuesday :-D
Here are some photos of the parade in Shell Lake, which was because of Labor Day on the following day. It was a very hot day, but nevertheless were many people on the street, either to see the parade or to save some candy for free :D It was a really nice day. Just not a good parade-day. I couldn't imagine doing 25 of that in a year, just to being the "Queen" of a small town, alsmost nobody knows... America!
Today we went out with the boat in lake. It was the first tubbing, I had ever been doing. But it's great fun! I had to scream all the time!
Later, in the evening we gilled on the boat for supper (yeah we made that on the boat). After a great family day, I just felt good and looked forward to the next day! :) My hostfamily is really friendly and funny. Until now everything is fine!
After a Pancake-Breakfast, we went to a parade, where my sister had to be, because she is the queen of Cumberland. I took some pictures, but I couldn't really enjoy because this day was a really hot one, arround 90 degrees and so you just staying busy in drinking the whole time water and searching for some shadow places. :D Nevertheless, my hostsister had have a harder job: Stay smiling and winking to everyone!
We went back home and then going to buy some school stuff, like folders and pencils. After shopping, my hostsisters and hostmom were hungry and we stopped at a taco fastfood restaurant (sorry, I forgot about the name...) I"ve hated this kind of food, because they haven't even something without meat or cheese and it's so unhealthy. It's just: Eeeeaahrr! ;O
But the day should develope into a better one... We came home again and Tayla (my younger sister) and me wanted to drive the jetski!! My first time drinving the jetski! :D And I drove on myself, it was just fun and feels like flying over the water *__* I think, that made me and my sister staying closer together. I'm glad about that.
In the evening, I tried to make supper for my hostfamily. I made some fresh vegetables in the pan with noddles and chicken. Because I mixed all together, they asked me: "So in Germany you eat a lot of chinese food?" I just had to laugh about it. Yeah I had to answer a lot of funny questions like: "Do you have snow in Germany?" or "Do you know fishes in Germany?" My hostfamily didn't even know Angela Merkel, through I do know who Barack Obama is... :D
It's Labor day, so I count it to the week-end blogarticle.
In the morning and around 1 pm I have skyped the first time with my parents and my little brother *__* I'm so glad, that I could even forget about they were able to see me, but I was just pobserving a black screen... ;D I have to figure it out how it works with my camera...
Today was a sunny day, too, so we went out in the lake. My hostparents asked me if I wanted to try wakeboarding and I just said: "Yes!" I already had tried wakeboarding at a station with my family. But just fell everytime in the water :-D This day I should be successful. After the second trial I figured it out and wakeboarded on both sides. It was so much fun!! :) I look forward to the next time I can do it.
At night we made a fire at home and grilled some mashmallows. They told about eating it with chocolate and cookies, but I forgot the special name for it. (@Wanda: that's the thing you wanted to show me at home ;D that's funny)
We were talking about many things, like why they wanted to host a german exchange student and about both familys a.s.o. . That was very nice and the longer I'm staying here the better I feel...
I'm actually fine,
I just want you to know, that yesterday was my first footballgame ever! And it was great fun :) Our team won with a score of 53-18, it was just amazing.
Although I'm not understand the game at all points, I've liked it to watch.
So you have to understand, that footballgames are a great thing for Americans, especially for the High school students. That's because before the game every girl wants to get jersey of one of the players. With a jersey, they're feeling kind of desirable, trendy and popular. Particularly in regard to boys ;)
After any sport games the team which was playing, will be picked up by a school bus (and also get there by it before the game) The thing people in America do a lot, is taking picture. Many pictures! But not of the game or somerthing around them. They're taking pictures of themselves. During the footballmatch we were more busy in taking pictures, than in watching the game :D But it was funny, too.
To end this: After the game finished, our group were driving to Mc Don's, at 11 o'clock pm! I couldn't eat a lot, but all of them ate, like they haven't eaten for one week... Okay that's a bit exagerrated, but they've not just eaten some french fries ;D
